Restaurant/ Bar Missing: Frank's Cafe and Campari Bar in Peckham multistory carpark

It is strange that when you are abroad you don't miss the things you think you will.  What I am really missing right now at 10:00am on a fine 85% humidity morning in Hong Kong is those esoteric things you can only discover if you are a native (or read the Londonist.com).  One of the best such things last year was Frank's Cafe and Campari Bar which has just restarted in Peckham's multistory carpark.  One of my best friends - Clair - a rather superlative poet (blog here) is planning on having her birthday there and is trying to persuade people that Peckham is worth it.  My contribution to this is some pictures of its opening last year.

Whilst last year Frank's truly excelled as a fantastic piece of architecture, surrounded by Hannah Barry's hand picked pieces of art with an inspiring view across London I had a chat with the team that runs it and this year they are going for it with the food.  Given their connections with Italo Deli (here) and Brunswick House Cafe (here) I would hope it should be great stuff.  And there are always the drinks.
And I already mentioned the view right?
And the fact that it is in a carpark filled with art (like a diving board over a mirror so it feels like you are falling into the sky)?
And that you can wander around and explore the carpark and stumble across further art?

  1. I fucking love this place, I am very excited about revisiting, and so glad I live a walking distance from it.

  2. I can think of nothing better than skipping a day of work and settling in there and have a mad days drinking and then going to some late night art fest in there or Deptford.

It truly is something pretty awesome. And I love the fact it isn't done by some mass group but just a small and very young crowd with a young talented gallery. Makes one all proud of London.

  3. This looks great, and well the trip to Peckham. I love it when people put otherwise unprepossessing space to good use. It's always more interesting drinking somewhere like that than in some chrome and wood clone bar in The City.

  4. Grubworm - ya gotta go. Find a nice day. Skip work. Hit the random art galleries in the area. Peak at the old industrial building by the Hannah Barry building and if you are there on Sunday be amazed at all the evangelical churches. Fascinating.
